Below you will find lessons that I have created (one is an extension of a lesson created by a colleague). These lessons use LEGO robots to help students understand concepts. When robots are added to the learning the students become excited, engaged, and motivated. Once you try it, you will want all of your lessons to include robots!! Better yet, they are aligned to the new Common Core State Standards.
The lessons are:
What is my Rate? - a two day activity that incorporates distance, rate, time, linear equations, proportions, estimation, and more.
Linear Equations - a one day activity where students run three programs on the robot to collect data, create a graph, write an equation to represent the graph, and relate their equation to d=rt.
Graphing Distance vs. Time - a one-two day activity based on the Linear Equations activity above for younger students.
Area, Perimeter, and Circumference - a one-two day unit that allows students to apply their understanding of area, perimeter, and circumference to squares, triangles, and circles drawn by the robot.
**I also have these documents in Microsoft Word format. If you would like a copy to modify to better suit your students' needs please feel to email me to request a copy.
