12/3/2012 - Finding the total # of pets (investigation 1.4)
If you are collecting data about the total # of pets students have you would keep a record of their answers as well as the frequency of the responses (how many times the same # was given).
If you want to know the total # of pets among all of the students you would multiply each response by its frequency (the # of students with that amount of pets) and then add all of the products. See the picture below. The total for this exercise was 156 total pets among the 26 students.
