Throughout my career in education, I have seen a lack of representation of role models within the minority groups. What drives me in participating to be a teacher/counselor is that I believe every individual holds the power to promote change, for the better. In my personal perspective, I also believe that there are three distinct characteristics or types of people.
The first characteristic or type of people are those who are able to critique and criticize what has been done and what should be done, but are not willing to take action to correct those problems.
The second characteristic or type includes those who only hope and dream of a solution to those problems. They are not willing to participate in making the changes in any matter; they sit alongside watching and hoping that someone else will take the chance to express their solutions and carry out their plans. Therefore, in a way, they are disguising their interests in whether they are seriously interested in making appropriate changes or not.
Last of all, the third characteristic or type includes those who are willing, able, and devoted for change. They devote their time in resolving current issues by seeking advice in the relating professions or simply going out and doing research themselves. Not only do they think their actions through, but they also take full responsibility to any consequences that may arise, whether it may hinder or support future courses of action. Their intention at heart is always to improve and help the lives of the oppressed and to seek equality wherever it is lacking.
Without those who critique and criticize, there is no well to improve and motivate. Without dreams, there is no hope. Without action, nothing can be done. It is my job to empower these young minds and create a fusion of these three characteristics in order to create a career and college ready FUTURE!
I'm the BEST there IS, the BEST there WAS, and the BEST there EVER WILL BE!
