Dr. Kamal was born in 1975 in Chapai Nawabgonj, a district in the North-West part of Bangladesh, near India. He was a student of Nawabgonj Govt. College. In 1997, he graduated from Khulna University of Engineering and Technology (former Bangladesh Institute of Technology (BIT) Khulna) from the Department of Electrical and Electronic Engineering. Immediately after graduation he joined the same university as a Lecturer and worked for more than three years. Unfortunately, before getting a tenure position he had to quit from his job for his higher studies in Japan.
Dr. Kamal got his Master degree in 2003 and PhD in 2006 from Graduate School of Information Science and Electrical Engineering, Kyushu University, Fukuoka, Japan. He was awarded the excellent student by IEEE Fukuoka Branch in 2005. Immediately after his PhD degree, he joined the same university as a postdoctoral fellow under the Japanese Government Project "Center of Excellence (COE) 21st Century".
In December 2006, he joined the Department of Mechatronics Engineering, International Islamic University Malaysia as an Assistant Professor. He also served as an Postgraduate Academic Advisor in the same department. He finished is first contract with IIUM and returned back to Kyushu University, Japan in May 2008.
Dr. Kamal worked in Kyushu University as a Researcher of Fukuoka Industry, Science, and Technology Foundation from Jun2008 to June 2011. During this period he worked in Kyushu university for the development of ecological transportation systems in collaboration with Nissan Motor Co Ltd. He moved to The University of Tokyo, as a Researcher of JST in Aihara Innovative Mathematical Modelling Project and worked there from July 2011 to March 2014. He joined Toyota R&D Labs in April 2014 where is currently holding a position of Visiting Researcher.
His research area is Intelligent Transportation Systems, especially Driver Assistance Systems for safe and ecological transportations and traffic control system. His publications includes about 50 journal papers, conference papers and books. He also delivered 7 Keynote/invited talks in various symposium, conference and workshop. He is a founder member of KUET Excellence Foundation aimed to support meritorious and needy student of Khulna University of Engineering and Technology. He is the publication secretary of International Conference on Environmental Aspects of Bangladesh (ICEAB) and International Conference on Informatics, Electronics & Vision (ICIEV). He is also a member of IEEE, IEEJ, BENJ and SICE.
Dr. Kamal visited many cities including Dubrovnik, Wellington, Auckland, Amsterdam, The Hague, Hiroshima, Nagasaki, Nara, Kyoto, Osaka, Oita, Kumamoto, Kuala Lumpur, Kuantan, Lankawi, Singapore, Stockholm, Budapest. His favorite sports is cricket and he was a cricket player in local district cricket league of Chapai Nawabgonj.
