Over a period of eighteen months, I completed my graduate program for a Masters of Education in Administration and Supervision.
The coursework had been challenging and engaging. I learned not only about the vital responsibilities of an administrator, but also about the type of leader I have become. All of my experiences, whether they were in the classroom or part of my internship, helped to shape my future as an effective school supervisor. I had the opportunity to become involved in several experiences that have immersed me in the responsibilities of an administrator and added to my leadership skills:
~ Spoke with the superintendent of a school district about educational law issues and school-community relations.
~ Discussed the collective negotiations process with union members and representatives.
~ Explored the topic of finances and fundraising with the owner of a school capital campaign consulting firm.
~ Delved into a school renovation project through conversations with a school business manager and a former facilities project manager.
~ Attended a variety of school board meetings, ranging from public to private and middle school to high school level.
~ Created a budget for a school fiscal year and for a school improvement project.
~ Analyzed and created a curriculum development plan.
~ Completed a supervision process by observing two different teachers within the classroom setting
My coursework has strengthened my abilities as a leader. I have come to understand the importance of building relationships with an educational setting. I am a more proactive leader who takes charge in situations and I lead by example and through collaboration with my colleagues. I understand my strengths and my challenge areas. Most importantly, I have become a more reflective individual who strives to involve all stakeholders in the decision-making process. As a result of my leadership, I have influenced others and helped to create a positive and collaborative working environment.
Throughout my graduate program, I completed 180 hours of internship/shadowing work. For each term, I completed time logs, reflections, and self-evaluations. At the end of the program, my supervising administrator evaluated my skills and progress. The documents attached below represent these pieces of work.
