If you have come here looking for my PhD thesis (Convective heat transfer in a rotating annulus, 2003), thank you for your interest. I am encouraged to find that it is still regularly downloaded after all these years. It is also available from EThOS (British Library) and University of Bath. You might be also interested in another item about scalings for thermal convection. The two main papers resulted from the thesis are:
Numerical simulations of convective heat transfer in a Rayleigh-Benard convection and a rotating annulus, 2005, Num Heat Transfer A.
Rayleigh-Benard convection in open and closed rotating cavities. 2007, ASME J Eng Gas Turbines and Power.
The whole tank (ie every part) is rotating together, and there are small jets of water from the outer rim pointing in, and from the inner rim pointing out. Can you work out which direction the tank is rotating (clockwise or anticlockwise)? Photo taken at Europa Passage, Hamburg, by M. King 2012
