Meetings 2022-2023

From 2024, meetings are held the third Wednesday of each month at the Bridges Centre, Drybridge House, Monmouth (details here). We start at 14:30 and meetings usually end by 16:00. Tea and coffee are available after the main presentation. The meeting place is chairwheel accessible.

13.09.22 Benard Henin: Ocean Worlds  Benard is an author for Springer Verlag. His website is:  www.bernardhenin.co.uk   Bernard will talk about the hidden oceans beneath various solar system bodies such as Ganymede, Europa and Enceladus. They may contain more water than the entire Earth and the possibility of life existing within cannot be dismissed.

11.10.22 Dr Neil Harvard: Planning for the 2024 Solar Eclipse Neil will speak about eclipses he has watched in the past and his preparations for the 2024 Solar Eclipse over the USA

08.11.22 Mary McIntyre FRAS: Reflection, Refraction & Excitation: The Hunt For Atmospheric Optics Mary's outstanding images of atmospheric phenomena, how and why they occur. This talk will be on screen in the room, conveyed by Zoom.

10.01.23 New Year Talks: An opportunity for members to each present a short talk (up to 10 minutes). Nibbles and drinks compulsory!

14.02.23 Dr Neil Havard: 'Antigravity - How gravity can appear to repel'  Things are not always what they seem and orbiting objects can confuse completely.

14.03.23 Roger Hyman: 'My Journey in Astronomical Imaging' Roger has some stunning images of planets, the Moon and the Sun to show us.

11.04.23 Steve Warbis: Our Place in the Universe-How Lucky Do You Feel Today? Steve Warbis, who works at Jodrell Bank, will present this stunning presentation about how the universe, our planet and ourselves came to be (see the poster below). This presentation will be at a U3A meeting, 14:00 for a 14:30 start, Bridges Centre, Monmouth. £3 entrance fee. Don't miss it!

09.05.23 Cancelled  The MARS programme has been shut down and will be restarted under Monmouth's U3A in the autumn of 2023.
