11.02.20 Dr Julian Onions: The Far Side of the Moon, is it full of Aliens? The Moon is a shy body, it only ever shows one side of itself to the Earth. Before the space age, we had no idea what was on the far side of the Moon. This has led to a number of conspiracy theories. This talk charts the progress of how we got to see what was on the far side of the Moon, and what we found there. Tin foil hats are optional!
10.03.20 Mark Gibbons: Mayan Astronomy The Mayans of South American flourished for a long time until the Spanish Conquistadors arrived. As a society they were pretty obsessed with astronomy. They built some stunning observatories and their measurement of heavenly objects was more accurate than that in Europe. This talk looks at what we have been able to piece together so far from what has survived.
