In short, reiki is a healing tradition originating in Japan, where the universal healing energy is channelled by a practitioner who has been attuned to it. It is a powerful but gentle force that, when channelled by an attuned practitioner, can de-stress, relax and in many cases heal, in a natural, effective and non-invasive way. Reiki can be used on self, others, animals, plants and food, and can be used distantly as well as in person.
Reiki is the transfer of electromagnetic energy from practitioner to client. The client draws the energy and the energy goes to the area that requires healing. The practitioner transfers the energy, but is not responsible for the results.
During a session, you will usually either lie fully clothed on a couch or sit on a chair, whichever is more comfortable. I will place my hands in certain positions on or just above your body in order to transmit the healing energy. You will simply need to relax as much as possible and concentrate on your body and/or your breathing which will help you in receiving the reiki. A session usually takes anything between 20 minutes and an hour.
Although reiki does not aim to cure diseases or illnesses, some of the benefits which have been reported by clients include relief of pain, anxiety, depression, fatigue and insomnia, increased awareness, creativity and intuition and increased feelings of positivity and general wellbeing.
