What is it?
Within a professional relationship with clear boundaries and maximum confidentiality, I provide a safe, respectful and non-judgmental environment for you to explore any issues you may be struggling with. I combine specific skills with extensive theoretical knowledge and intuition in order to help you explore these more deeply, the eventual aim of such deeper exploration being for you to find your own answers. Together we identify anything which might be blocking you from doing this and find suitable ways in which you might address these challenges.
My approach
My approach is integrative, very much based on the person-centred or non-directive tradition pioneered by Carl Rogers. I do not believe that one size fits all and prefer to fit theories around clients rather than vice versa. I therefore draw on a range of different models. I often work with imagery, dreams and creative approaches as ways of accessing deeper levels of consciousness, and often work with the practical application of mindfulness as a way of learning to relate more effectively to emotions and thoughts . I can also work in a more short term, solution focused way where appropriate.
I do not provide advice or answers, although a different perspective may be offered and suggestions given where appropriate. I believe that people have their own answers inside, but sometimes lose sight of this. It is my role to help you mobilize and extend your inner and outer resources, and to provide you with tools by which to eventually become your own best therapist. I combine support and sensitive challenge to help you move towards being the person you wish to be, and living the life you wish to live in a way that feels authentic.
I have a particularly strong interest in working with the body, and am a qualified embodied therapist. I like to incorporate working with the body into my overall approach whererver appropriate, as I believe that the body can be an important source of information and a wonderful resource for us if we are willing to listen and respond to its messages.
Who might benefit from counselling?
Most people can benefit from counselling if they are open to it, ready and willing to work, although they may sometimes feel uncomfortable during the process as it is essentially one of change. Counselling is a collaborative, two way process which is more productive when the client is an active participant, rather than the counsellor “curing” or “fixing” the client.

What next?
You can contact me by telephone or e-mail to arrange an initial session. This is an opportunity for us to find out more about each other to see if it would be suitable for us to work together. If so, we go through the terms and conditions (the contract). If you are happy with this, we will then arrange a mutually agreed initial number of sessions at an agreed frequency. This is usually weekly initially, but can be negotiable.
I work mainly in person, but also offer remote sessions via Zoom or phone if appropriate .
