Flint Knives

    Flintknapping is an art unto itself.  Working with a glass-like material that can snap at any time while making your tools is a challenge that can frustrate even experienced knappers.  Stone tools, when properly made, can be extremely sharp producing edges that are sharper than any steel tool.   Here are pictures of some of the materials I have used as well as some of the stone knives I have made in the past.

    Below is a novaculite knife blade and below that the blade mounted n a Deer jaw handle and and its sheath decorated with bead work showing the 4 directions

This next knife is made from Mahogany Obsidian mounted in a Beaver jaw.  This knife is small and made as a neck knife

Next is a Georgetown Flint blade mounted in a Deer jaw.  The sheath is made from brain tanned Buffalo hide and the knife and sheath decorated with Horse hair

Next is a Novaculite blade mounted in a Deer jaw.  The sheath is brain tanned Deer hide with snakeskin decoration and Rattlesnake rattles decorating the knife and sheath
