Composite Bows

Composite bows are essentially backed bows or bows made of more than 1 piece of wood laminated together.  Simple composites are bows made up of no more than 2 laminations.  This means a hard backing such as a thin strip of wood glued onto a core or an animal product such as rawhide or sinew glued onto the back of a selfbow.  Shorter bows can be safely made this way allowing for high strain in the wood and more energy storage.  There are many styles of composite bows from longbows to recurves and the more modern R/D bow.

Below are images of the different styles of composite bows I make along with a brief description of the bow.  At the end of the description is a starting price for that style of bow, shipping in all cases is extra.

The first bow on the list is HHB backed with Elm made in the English Longbow style.  This particular bow is a flightbow I made for a guy in Nevada.  The overall length for this particular bow is 71" with a draw weight of 120# at a 30" draw length.

This next line of bow is a straight handle static recurve.  The bow shown is made of Black Locust backed with Bamboo, it was made as a flightbow.  This bow shot light flight arrows at a speed of 230 FPS (feet per second).  These bows are high strain, high performance bows.  Prices on request.

The next line of bow is the RD bow.  These bows are fast and very user friendly.  The bow pictured is still in my possession and is Brazilian Rosewood backed with Bamboo and is made from spliced billets.  It's a great hunting weapon.

Next in this list is a deflex recurve.  These bows are very fast but more user friendly than the straight handle recurves and they can be made shorter for a given draw length.  The bow pictured is one that I have in stock and is made of spliced billets of Osage backed with Hickory.

The last line of bows I have available is the take-down.  These bows can be dismantled into 3 pieces so that they can be easily transported.  The bow shown below is my own Bamboo backed Rosewood take-down that I use for hunting.  A smooth shooting bow that is fast and easy to use.
