Memorabilia

Queen's Award Plaque

In 1977, Marconi Instruments was awarded a Queen's Award to Industry - as I recall, it was for the design of the TF2501/2/3 series of RF power meters. We were all given a nice marble plaque.

50th Anniversary Mug

1986 was the 50th anniversary of the formation of Marconi Instruments. I still have the commemorative mug that I was given to mark the occasion.

Ash tray

It seems incredible these days that you could smoke at your workbench. Not only could you smoke at your bench in the 1970s but they kindly provided you with a personal ash tray!

Road sign

This is the only item in John's Virtual Museum that I don't actually own, however I couldn't resist posting this picture here. This road sign could be seen on the Hatfield Road in St Albans, pointing up Longacres towards the MI factory. When the works closed and moved to Stevenage it was "rescued" and is still in safe hands!

Printed circuit board

This was a "freebie" that was presented to those who attended a careers evening organised by MI in 1969. The building depicted on the PCB is the MI works at Longacres, St Albans.
