Equal Opportunity Assurance Statement

It is the policy of Maple Park Public Library to comply with Section 188 of the Workforce Investment act of 1998 (WIA), which prohibits discrimination against all individuals in the United States on the basis of race, color, religion, sex, national origin, age, sexual orientation, disability, political affiliation or belief.

Maple Park Public Library complies with the Title VI of the Civil Rights Act of 1964, as amended, which prohibits discrimination on the basis of race, color, and national origin.

Maple Park Public Library complies with The Age Discrimination in Employment Act of 1975, as amended, which prohibits discrimination on the basis of age.

Maple Park Public Library complies with the American with Disabilities act of 1990 and Section 504 of the Rehabilitation Act of 1973, as amended, which prohibits discrimination against qualified individuals with disabilities.

Maple Park Public Library complies with Section 188 of the WIA, which provides that persons with disabilities must be provided with reasonable accommodations and modifications for their disabilities. The section also requires that individuals with disabilities be given services alongside (not segregated from) people without disabilities, unless the program or activity providing services performs an individualized assessment of a particular individual with a disability and concludes that the individual needs special, segregated services.

Hiring Policy

Notices of job vacancies will appear on the bulletin board or in a staff memo first, and in other media as needed. A written application shall precede employment. Previous work references will be checked.

The Library Director is interviewed, appointed by, and responsible to the Maple Park Public Library Board of Trustees. The Library Director will interview and select all other positions in accordance with established personnel guidelines. All appointments shall be made on the basis of merit.

Probation

All new employees are considered t be on probation for three months. An evaluation will be made near the end of the three-month period by the Library Director. During the probationary period, the new employee and the Maple Park Public Library have the opportunity to determine if the individual is adjusting to the employment situation. At any time during the probationary period an employee may terminate without obligation, and likewise, the Maple Park Public Library may terminate employment without obligation. Dismissal during the probationary period is non-reviewable.
