Landing in London was somewhat like landing in Sydney. It felt like we were home and yet we felt like tourists. Thankfully we'd set low expectations for London, Mandy having had an amazing time last time she lived here and we'd been constantly reminded by others that it would not be the same. We were therefore expecting overpriced food, crappy weather and dreary people. Instead, we found blue skies and warm weather, not too overpriced food (no worse than Sydney) and friendly people. OK, so we were only there for three days, but still....
The first day was spent walking about 6 hours along the embankment of the Thames, taking in the famous sites of Big Ben and the houses of Parliament, Tower Bridge, London Bridge etc. We also went for a trip down memory lane for me, passing Mands' old work - the Financial Times - as well as nearby spots like the Tate Modern, The Globe Theatre and the Borough Markets and we finally got to cross the Millennium Bridge.....which was a little like the Millennium train in Sydney.....didn't quite get there in time!
The next day we went to the Notting Hill Festival where we met our mates Leeti and Brett, who've been living in Thailand for the best part of a year. It was great to meet at least one group of mates, having missed several others due to our late arrival.
The final day was spent recovering from that and then making our way to Luton for our "cheap" flight to Budapest, which, by the way, may not be worth the money you save on the airfare (getting to Luton, that is).
