Mentoring and Workshops

One of the best ways to improve your photography is to simply do more of it. Even better: do it with other photographers, where those with additional experience or just original ideas can help you progress.

Many experienced photographers offer workshops, where they take a group of participants somewhere to perform a workshop aimed at their particular genre. Such workshops vary in format, scale and cost; some are large groups, some are small; it may be a single day or, perhaps, a long weekend. I have chosen not to offer workshops, as such, but prefer to provide mentoring to small groups [1 to 3 photographers], who are interested in my style of photography, which I term Observational Photography.

There is no standard format for a mentoring session. I simply charge by the hour, plus expenses. The hourly rate is fixed, so the more participants, the less each one has to pay. A session may be 2-4 hours, but this is not fixed - every mentoring session is tailored to the participants needs.

If you might be interested in taking part in such a session, please get in contact and we can discuss what form it might take. There is absolutely no obligation implied by an enquiry. The key things that we would discuss are:

  • what you want to achieve - if you have specific needs

  • a provisional date [this may be subject to review of weather before finalizing]

  • a location or starting point

  • a duration - normally 2-4 hours, but I am flexible

  • the number of participant - it can be just you, but you are welcome to bring along 1-2 friends/colleagues [I will not be including anyone else without your prior knowledge and consent]
