PORTLAND TERMINAL COMPANY

The Portland Terminal Company was formed by the Boston & Maine and Maine Central in 1911 but soon became a wholly owned subsidiary of the Maine Central performing switching services in the Portland area. Over the years the company owned thirty steam locomotives; two 4-4-0's, two 0-8-0's and twenty-six 0-6-0's. (The 4-6-4 was leased, not owned.) Twelve of the engines came from the Maine Central, six came from the B&M and twelve were purchased new.

0-6-0 Type

804 was B&M G-9-b 161 built by Manchester in 1899 and scrapped in 1929.

805 was B&M G-9-c 192 built by Baldwin in 1903 and scrapped in December 1928.

806 was B&M G -9-c 194 built by Baldwin in 1903 and scrapped in 1929.

811 was MEC 187 built by Manchester in 1906 and scrapped in 1939. The camelback was one of five built for the MEC and sent to the Portland Terminal Co. in 1911.

Camelback 811 was rebuilt with a narrow firbox and rear cab in 1916 when ten years old.

821 was MEC 165 built by ALCO Schenectady in 1910 and scrapped in 1945.

822 was MEC 166 built by ALCO Schenectady in 1910 and sold in 1943.

824 was the first engine purchased new by the Portland Terminal. It was built by Manchester in 1912, rebuilt in 1930 and scrapped in 1944. Photo is from 1934.

The two low sand domes identify the rebuilds.

825 was built by ALCO Manchester in 1912 and scrapped in 1947.

826 was built by ALCO Manchester in 1912 and scrapped in 1946.

827 was built by ALCO Manchester in 1912 and scrapped in 1945.

829 was built by ALCO Manchester in 1913 and scrapped in 1950.

It is in its original form; 824-827, also built by Manchester, were rebuilt as shown above.

833 was built by ALCO Pittsburg in 1918 and scrapped in 1951.

834 was built by ALCO Schenectady in 1920 and sold in 1951.

835 was built by ALCO Schenectady in 1920 and scrapped in 1950.

0-8-0 Type

851 and 852 were the only 0-8-0's owned by the Portland Terminal Company. They were former Boston & Maine H-1-a 600 and 601 purchased in 1935. They were both built by ALCO Schenectady in 1916 and both were scrapped in 1951.
