Weight Management

We recommend maintaining a reasonable body weight. Excess fat, especially in the abdomen, is associated with numerous conditions that effect health and shorten life.
These include:

- high blood pressure
- heart disease
- diabetes
- arthritis
- obstructive sleep apnea

Weight management is a complicated issue. It involves lifelong healthy habits such a good nutrition and regular exercise. Please refer to these pages.

We highly recommend the information found at the CDC Healthy Weight portal. Please take time to read through this information.

Additional personal help may be found through the Beaumont Weight Control Center.

Weight loss is something that will happen only with the adoption of a healthy lifestyle. Even with heroic procedures such as bariatric surgery, maintaining a healthy body weight absolutely requires a lifetime of healthy nutrition and physical activity.

** We at Michigan Adult and Child Medicine do not advocate drugs for the purpose of weight loss. There currently are no drugs that we consider to be both safe and effective.
