7 July 2019
This picture shows the location for Lynton. The track will come in from bottom left under the O gauge and occupy the flower border up to the conservatory.
Clearing the border will take a while as some plants need to wait for the appropriate time of year. The following shows progress at July 2019.
The right hand beam marks the proposed line into the main platform. To the right of that will be the loop and then the kick back into the engine shed. The left hand beam marks the bay line. The station building and goods yard are behind the photographer.
The right hand beam has been sunk to track level but it may need to come up a bit. The other beam is just sitting on the soil.
15 April 2020 - Concrete to Linton
Fortunately I managed to order a Jumbo bag of 20mm ballast and some concrete before the Coronavirus lock down took effect. It was delivered last week and progress has been good with the lock down and good weather.
This is the section from Chelfham across the bottom of the garden.
In the middle of the straight section I am planning a bridge based on bridge 54 or 55. The prototypes were rebuilt recently. I have allowed for that with an H beam of aluminium which I had by me as shown below.
Behind the camera in the first image is the curve around to Lynton as shown below. I am planning to include one of the halts at the back between the trees.
Finally the concrete has reached Lynton, freshly laid this afternoon. The left hand track is the main platform with the loop to the right. The bay is hidden under the dirt to the left. The cardboard is the footprint for the engine shed. I need to align that siding so that locos can be steamed and serviced at the far end.
22 April 2020 - Slowing progress
Progress on Lynton is slowing as I give priority for my remaining cement to my O gauge although any concrete left over from each mix will be used to extend the Lynton platform line. Peco have suspended track production and I don't have enough left in stock to get any further than the temporary pieces you see here.
11 May 2020 - More progress
Progress resumes with my remaining cement as the O gauge is done for now.
The siding through the engine shed is done but needs extending. That is where locos will be railed and serviced.
The bay needs concreting, roughly under the boards to the left.
The main platform and loop need extending with a crossover and then the goods yard. That has to wait until we have cropped the strawberries which are currently in the way!
27 May 2020 - Waiting ...
... to harvest strawberries and for track to be delivered.
3 June 2020 - First Train to Lynton
I have glued the track around the curve into Linton. Here is the first train to arrive. The track in the station is temporary. I am waiting for a delivery so that I can complete the run round loop.
12 September 2023 - Concrete Complete
This is September 2023 and I have completed the concreting. Here we have a view of Lynton from where it dives under the O gauge on route to Parracombe. The loco shed is to the left, bay to the right and the goods shed at the top on the extension to the loop.
