In 2024, I started a new Substack on innovation, technology and policy, with a focus on Europe and on AI. I am working on this project with Pieter Garicano. It is called Silicon Continent. We have posts on GDPR, AI, Universities and Innovation, Industrial Policy and much more. Take a look, you may enjoy it! My research studies the organization of knowledge, talent, and specialization and its impact on productivity and economic growth. I am currently focused on how AI reshapes the economics of work. I have also developed a stream of applied policy research on how to improve Europe's institutions.
I returned to academia in 2022 after serving as a Member of the European Parliament, where I was vice-president of the Renew Europe group overseeing economic affairs. Previously, I spent a decade at the University of Chicago Booth School of Business, where I reached the position of Full Professor of Economics and Strategy, and another decade here in the Departments of Management and Economics at LSE.
