How to Make Koumiss
This is interesting. I found this on an Internet site. It is a recipe for an alcoholic drink that the Huns used to make and drink. It is called Koumiss. It is also stated that it is nutritious. People still drink it in some parts of the world. It is made from fermented mare's milk. (It is mostly made from cow's milk, now, although it was originally made from horse's milk. The authentic stuff is made from mare's milk.)
The Recipe
Heat milk to the boiling point, and then let it cool until it is lukewarm.
Put it into quart bottles.
Add 20 grains of Vienna yeast, and 1/2 an ounce of crushed loaf sugar to each bottle.
Cork the bottles, tie the bottles down, and lay the bottles on their sides.
Shake the bottles twice daily.
It should be ready to drink in 6 days.
Note
It is probably hard to find horse's milk (mare's milk); however, it is out there.
