Coach email #1 Introduction April 10

Post date: Apr 19, 2013 7:16:37 PM

Dear swimmer and diving parents,

My name is David Darmitzel and I am very excited to email you as head coach of our Tiger Swim and Dive programs about our upcoming swimming and diving seasons. I will keep it as short and sweet as possible.

First, please help me update my contact information if you would prefer I reach you by another email.

Second, please save the date and join us Monday, May 13 at 6 p.m. for our summer kick-off at the LSHS Brockman Lecture Hall. Both guys and girls teams will meet because we are all LSHS swimmers and divers.

Third, help get your swimmer or diver excited about our upcoming seasons and grow our program. I am challenging each of our athletes to bring a guest (a LSHS friend, neighbor or classmate) to our LSHS swim meetings. Please know that you are a big part of this work in getting them to go out and make the invite and also to do this very important work in all your conversations with potential athletes. Much of our success and failure will be decided long before our first meet and at our first practice, by the number of our squad. I am only emailing the parents of 11 male athletes. We need to do better than that.

Guy swimmers and divers will meet in my B117 classroom at 7 a.m. on Tuesday, April 16.

Ladies will meet in my class next Thursday, April 18.

Please have them bring a guest!

Fourth, I am meeting tomorrow to finalize our challenging 2013-2014 competitive swim schedules that I will share at our May 13 summer kick off. For now,I want to let you know that we will need to be at our fittest and fastest. In the same spirit of being competitive, we will have a combined guys and girls summer swim camp from June 13th to July 19th (minus July 4th and 5th). The camp will be $60 with the funds going towards our program and equipment purchases. Practices will be from 6 a.m. to 8 a.m. and will be a great opportunity to build our conditioning base, learn more about technique and grow as a team. Believe me, I don't want to wake up early or drive to the aquatic center from my home in KCMO but this is the job I chose and this is the sport that our swimmers chose. This is something that the best high school teams do and something that our athletes need to do to become more competitive.

Lastly, I want to thank you in advance for all the work that swimmer parents do and for all the support I’ve received leading up to today. I look forward to working with you and enjoying in the growth of our teams and our athletes this next year. Please know that the positive energy we create now will move us forward.

Have a great evening and see you in May. Go Tigers!
