This applies to users outside the Call Center group only.
Important: This only works on the PE LAN, the LSA LAN in Centurion or if the computer is connected to the PE OpenVPN server. Speak to ICT about getting your computer connected to OpenVPN if required.
We use a MicroSIP portable and an in-house developed registry setup to make MicroSIP the sip: protocol handler in Windows.
Create a folder called \MicroSIP in the root of your C: drive
Navigate to \\RGTSFILESRV\Apps\voip and copy everything there to C:\MicroSIP
Navigate to C:\MicroSIP and double-click RunMicroSIP.bat, this will start Microsip
Click on Menu and then Add Account
Fill in the form as follows:
SIP Server: 192.168.7.27
SIP Proxy: 192.168.7.27:5062
User: your extension number provided by ICT
Domain: 192.168.7.27
Login: your extension number provided by ICT
Password: your password provided by ICT
Display name: your name
Media encryption: Disabled
Transport: UDP
Public address: Auto
Publish presence: Ticked
Stun server: Blank
ICE: Un-ticked
Allow IP Rewrite: Ticked
Click Save, you should see MicroSIP go online
Click Menu and then Settings
Check your Ring/Speaker/Microphone devices
Under Audio Codecs, in the Enabled list, move G.729 8 KHz to the top, GSM 8 kHz to the second position and G.711 u-Law to the third
Click Save
Go to the Dialpad and call *43, this is an Echo Test service that allows you to check your setup and make sure your audio devices are set up correctly
Go back to C:\MicroSIP and double-click the register-microsip.reg file, this will merge the settings to start MicroSIP at login and to make it the handler for sip: links into your Windows registry
The contacts list can be very useful indeed, you can even add special codes from the Feature Codes part of the Numbers and Codes page to it. Say you want to be able to forward your VoIP phone (ex 299) to your desk phone (199) when you are at your desk, you would dial *72199 (well, actually *7299199 because we want to be sure the call goes to the old PABX, which has prefix code 99) to turn forwarding on and *73 to turn forwarding off. To make it easier, add two contacts:
(I put the three underscores before the name so these are sorted to the top of the list)
So then to turn forwarding on you just double-click the ___Forward to desk entry and to disable forwarding you double-click the ___Forwarding off entry.
Naturally this is a slightly silly example, since we are planning to eliminate all the old PABX extensions over time.
Speaking of the Numbers and Codes page, you can now click on the numbers on that page to call people instead of putting their extension numbers in. This includes people at LSA Centurion and IDA (see the links at the bottom of the page) and some people at LSP and Bryanston (see the LSP tab).
