Final LVRC Board Meeting, Tuesday 4/11/17

posted Apr 5, 2017, 3:45 PM by LV RC

To All,

We need to hold one more Board meeting to close out this season and schedule the start of the the next.   It would be awesome to get everyone's feedback on the season we just had; therefore, you are all invited to attend!  We are an group-centric organization and we need to know what everyone thinks, positive and negative. Evolution of any organization is acceptance of the failures and fostering its successes, so we want your input.  I have invited the coaches to this meeting so we can gather some feedback from their perspective as well.

The meeting is scheduled for 6 PM, April 11th at Lost Valley.  Please save the date and join us for this event.

Don't let your kids slow you down, bring them along.  The meeting location can support a pack of kids doing what they do best.

Hint: LV is closed and everything is shut down.  That means you won't be able to get cola or anything else.  If you want a beverage/s while we meet, please bee prepared to bring your own.

3/20/17 LVRC Night at Lost Valley

posted Mar 19, 2017, 6:33 PM by LV RC

The Members of the Board and myself are excited to see you all at the LVRC Banquet tomorrow night!   As Coach has previously stated, Lost Valley will be open for an hour just for us!  Talk about private party!  This event is on the house, so you don't have to worry about incurring any additional expenses.   Unless of course, you take advantage of the full service bar that will be open for the parents, then there can be a minor expense.

So here is a brief schedule to let you know how it will all unfold.

5:00 PM to 5:30 PM
- Racers show up, suit up and be ready for 5:30 Start
- Volunteers help Coach set up Race course

5:30 PM to 6:30 PM
- Racers Race
- Volunteers help set up the Banquet area

6:30 - 7:00 PM
- Buffet style meal/appetizers

7 PM to 7:30 PM
- Awards and presentations (Medals and Schwagg)

We understand that other sports have kicked in now that the ski season is drawing down.  Please feel free to show up at any point during the LVRC event, we just want to see you there.  Also, this is a rough schedule and things might go faster or slower than expected.  So, please bear with us as we work our way through this event.

March Events

posted Mar 6, 2017, 5:43 PM by LV RC

To All,

Below are some save the dates for up and coming LVRC events.  We hope that you all can join us to celebrate the our successful year!

15 March, LVRC Race Night!
Jodd bowels has graciously agreed to help us set up timing for our racers.  That means we will be able to have our racers run the gates with no pressure to place but they get to see their times.  If we can make it happen, we will set 2 courses so the kids can go head to head.   It should be a fun event where all can race each other and showcase how far they have come. Maybe they have grudge matches to settle or they just want to race their friends.  In effort to make this happen for the kids, we need help setting up the timing and the corral if needed. There will be a group showing up at 4:30 PM to get everything ready.  We need volunteers, if you can swing it, we would appreciate the help.  If you can't make 4:30, don't let that stop you from showing up since we will need help taking the course down as well.

20 March, LVRC Banquet
This will be our final LVRC night.  If the trails are still open, LVRC will meet as usual at 5:30 PM and ski for an hour.  After that hour, everyone will convene in the lodge for an awards banquet for food and fun.  This event will bring closure to the awesome year we've had and give us a chance to recognize everyone's achievements and efforts. If Lost Valley is not open, we will start the Banquet at 5:30 PM and with the extra time we will roast the the coaches.

Magno Packard Memorial Race

posted Feb 28, 2017, 6:39 PM by LV RC   [ updated Feb 28, 2017, 6:42 PM ]

Tom Magno was captain of the state championship 1967 Edward Little Ski Team at a time when combined scoring in four events – downhill, slalom, cross country and jumping – determined the winning team. He won the state Nordic combined and jumping championships which earned him a place on the US Junior National team. Unfortunately, financial considerations ended his pursuit of the sport after high school. Tom passed away January 15, 1995 at the age of 47.

Bob Packard was a 1980 graduate of Lewiston High School. He was a member of the Auburn Ski Association and the consummate volunteer, always available to help with the course or in anyway needed to hold a successful event for the ‘kids.’ Without the dedication of volunteers like Bob, a generation of new racers would not have the opportunity to experience the joy of racing and the friendships formed in the skiing community. Bob passed away June 10, 2015 at the age of 53.

Categories for the race are in both Alpine and Snowboard for ages from 3 to 73! Register the morning of the event from 8:00 - 9:30 am. A Small entry fee includes a lift ticket. Race begins by 10:00 am. Gold, silver and bronze medals are given in each category, as well as special awards/prizes in ‘fun’ categories. This event is known for an emphasis on family participation. The kids love racing with Dad, Mom, Grandma and Granddad! One of the highlights of this race is the 'shootout', when the top finishers in chosen categories go head to head in dual pro-format, racing with differential timing in order to determine the King (or Queen) of Lost valley. Come join the Fun!!!

LVRC Team Jackets

posted Feb 28, 2017, 6:22 PM by LV RC

To All,

We are looking to the possibility of some LVRC Team jackets.  They would have the LVRC logo on the back and the racers name on the front  Embroidery would be roughly $25.  Below are the details and options and the graphic which would go on back:

Youth SSJ-1Y (CLICK HERE) $179.00 + emb,
Adult SSJ-1 (CLICK HERE) $209.00 + emb,
Womans SSJ-1W (CLICK HERE) $209.00 + emb.
Youth CXJ-1Y ($67.00 + emb)
Youth CXJ-2Y ($90.00 + emb)
Adult CXJ-1  ($75.00 + emb
Adult  CXJ-2 ($97.00 + emb)

What I need to know is if anybody is interested in purchasing a jacket now before the end of this season?  Could you please email us if you would like to purchase one of the above listed jackets soon.  If we do it this year, the more orders we get the cheaper the price.

Friday 2-24 Training

posted Feb 24, 2017, 11:27 AM by LV RC

Folks:  Bring slalom and GS, I can’t decide.      We talked about doing another round of kombi, but without Myrick on the hill we also have the entire place to ourselves (hopefully). so could set a sprawling G.S.
See you at 5 (half hour early on Fridays).

Don’t forget Camden on Sunday.

We had 163 racers support us at  the the JP.
Una mana lava l’altra, as my grannyr used to say.

Wednesday Feb. 15 training ON

posted Feb 15, 2017, 12:52 PM by LV RC

Folks:  More snow, more opportunity to practice our skills in softer conditions.   Two-footed skiing, subtler edging, learning how to use the ruts, all skills we in the east more often associate with western conditions.  Training will begin at 5:30 as usual this evening.  We will have our usual show and tell at 5:25.   Please attend as this review of the evening’s activities, if missed, leads to lots of questions and confusion for the late arrival.  Plus, instead of getting on with the training plan, Tara and I are repeating instructions for the late arrivals.  REMEMBER, IF YOU CAN’T BE ON TIME, BE EARLY!

Short turns tonight, slalom skis, hop turns down Bull Moose, with pole touches, PLEASE VIEW LINK:    This will help with upper body “square to the hill”.   As in the past, we will revisit old drills and introduce new ones.   Then, if conditions allow, we will set gates.  PLEASE KEEP IN MIND GATES IN PURE POWDER REALLY IS AN EXERCISE IN FUTILITY, therefore don’t be surprised if we don’t set gates on power days.  Thanks, and see you tonight.

Coach Allan.
