Long Way To Go is a website for a group of old boys who have decided to try and roll back the years, fight for fitness and go a great road trip across Britain. A 1000 mile battle from Lands End to John O'Groats, in 8 days, by bike (and van!).
Eleven of us originally signed up. 2 have already fallen by the wayside before we even begin.
Our plans are detailed on the left. 8 days with over 130 miles to cover on every day. None of our group is attempting to cycle the whole way - none of us has enough fitness or experience to attempt that. In fact experience in the saddle is not plentyful amongst us, as recent as last September 5 of us did not own a bike!
We are, in fact, a group of friends all around 50 years old and all stretching ourselves with this adventure. We all plan to cycle for 4-5 hours per day, taking our turn at cycling and then driving one of the support vans.
Some of us are riding in support of a specific appeal, and we are really thankful for all the sponsorship and good wishes we are receiving.
What are the plans?
They are outlined on this website. This is our working plan for the ride. What's contained here could be the ideal blueprint for how to get a regular group of people 1,000 miles by bike ... or it could be the master plan for calamity. Either way we will find out over Easter.
---- UPDATE ----We did it, all tired but healthy and all successfully completed the journey. See the blogs and Images for some of the stories.
