The LUSD Community Education Foundation Mini Grant program was founded to support the educational needs of the students and teachers that are not covered by the School District Budget. Funds are raised via our annual fundraiser, and donations are gladly accepted for this specific purpose. In the fall of 2016, the program was retooled, and a formal application period of November through February for funds needed for the following school year, with more specific criteria, was established. In May of each year, the applicants are notified of the disposition of their request and funds distributed. Through our fundraising efforts and some generous donations, we have been able to fulfill 89 requests and award over $36,100 in Mini Grants from the spring of 2016 to the spring of 2024. There are still many worthy requests that we are unable to accommodate, and we are working on future fundraising efforts and other revenue streams that will hopefully assist in correcting this.
Please Note - The LUSD Community Education Foundation Mini Grant program was developed to provide financial support to LUSD teachers and educators for special classroom projects and needs not funded by the school district budget. Please note requests to support field trips will not be approved or funded. Mini grants are capped at $500 per request, and applications are solicited in the fall and winter for the upcoming school year, with a submission deadline of 2/28. The requests will be reviewed and the following criteria will be used to determine recipient(s) of the mini grants: number of students impacted; the life of the grant; is the goal to be achieved aligned with the School District’s Strategic Plan; and any other information deemed important by the review panel. Notification of approval or non-approval will be sent out to applicants in June.
Applicants who did not receive a Mini Grant the previous year will be given first consideration.
We are happy to share that $3943 for mini-grants was awarded May 13, 2025, to ten teachers at eight different Lompoc schools for the 2025/2026 school year. Money awarded will be used to purchase items not covered in the LUSD annual budget, which includes, but is not limited to: books, science materials, magnetic tiles and dice to support math skills, art supplies and tools to build fine motor skills and creativity, stage make-up and application tools for drama productions, and other classroom supplies. Fullfillment of these requests will benefit more than 3000 students over the span of up to 10 years depending on the grant.
