STOMP
STOMP is Schoolwide Positive Behavior Support for the students of Liberty Memorial Central Middle School. Schoolwide Positive Behavior Support is an organizational framework for discipline. As a framework or approach, it is not a specific “model” or “program,” but a compilation of research-validated and effective practices, interventions, and systems change strategies. SW-PBS provides the framework for:
▶ Improving the social behavioral climate of schools
▶ Supporting or enhancing the impact of academic instruction on achievement
▶ Increasing proactive, positive, preventive management while decreasing reactive management
▶ Integrating academic and behavior supports
▶ Improving services for all students, including students at risk and students with identified disabilities
Students are encouraged to demonstrate STOMP qualities and are reinforced with Mustang Money which can be spent in the building at the STOMP Store or in classrooms.
What happens when students behave inappropriately at school? There are two levels of behavior infractions: minor and major. Minor behavior infractions will be addressed and handled by teachers, who will also call parents at home. Major behavior infractions will be referred to the office to be handled by the principal or assistant principal. You will also receive a phone call about these concerns. Detailed information about behavior infractions may be found in the student agenda.
One of our goals with the STOMP program is to enhance involvement and communication with parents and guardians. Research shows that parent involvement in a child's school experience greatly increases students' chances for academic success, positive behavior, higher self-esteem, better attendance and greater motivation. We believe that parents are key sources of information about their child, are their child's first teachers, and have strengths and interests that can contribute to the educational process. When schools and families work together to support learning, children tend to succeed not just in school, but throughout life.
You will find a copy of the STOMP behavior expectations in your child's student agenda provided by the school. If you have any questions about the STOMP program or if you are interested in how you can support the program, please do not hesitate to call, 832-5400.
