Ideas for organising your class to facilitate home school interactions via Blogging

  • Blogging monitors with responsibility to add to the blog each week. Posting regularly.
  • Showing parents how to leave comments and encouraging them to do so. Chocolate fish bribes: Allanah's blog.
  • Quad Blogging- team up with three other classes in school to be a 'star' blogging class for a week at a time.
  • The blog is on the data projector/TV in the mornings as a discussion starter as parents walk in the room.
  • Making sure the blog is rolling over with interesting content so it is worth revisiting.
  • Ensuring that the blog/wiki is linked to the school website so people can easily find it.
  • Adding an email subscription to your blog so parents get an email when you have updated. How to on the Bling4yrblog.
  • Children emailing parents immediately when a learning goal is met or an achievement needs celebrating.
  • Explicitly teach how to comment on your blog so they can teach their parents.
  • Here's a four minute video from Linda Yollis on what to say when ou comment on a blog post. For me, as a teacher, I always comment and give some feedback on posts that children have written. Why should anyone else leave a comment if you haven't modelled it.
