Design Contest
Scouts/Parents/Siblings have the opportunity to enter their their original designed cars in the design competition.
All Scouts and Uniformed Leaders are eligible to vote on their favorite car for each division (Per Scout Rank + Parent + Siblings). Parents and Sibling design contest participants are also eligible to vote for their own categories.
CARS MUST BE IMPOUNDED FRIDAY 1/23/26
When: Voting will open Saturday 1/24/26 and close when speed competition begins at noon, Sunday 1/25/26

Format and Rules:
Each Scout and Parent/Sibling Design Contestants will photograph their cars at impound. A digital ballot will be distributed and voting will remain open from Saturday 1/24 until the Speed Competition beings on Sunday 1/25. Winners will be announced at the conclusion of the Speed Competition.
All Pack997 uniformed leaders and scouts are eligible to vote for all Scout/Parents/Sibling ranks. In addition, parents and siblings participants are eligible to vote for his/her respective rank.
Cars will be photographed at impound and photos of cars will be included in the ballot.
Speed Contest
Scouts, Siblings, Parents will race against each other within the same division. This is a timed race.
Speed contestants are required to check in (impound) their cars prior to the event (*see details below).
Our contest officials will take turns to race the car down the pinewood derby track with built-in sensor to determine the time for each car.
When: Sunday, January 25th, 2026 at 11:30AM
Where: Windemere Ranch Middle School(WRMS) MPR - Spectators are welcomed on site
*Check In: Speed Contestants MUST bring their cars to WRMS MPR to impound on Friday, January 23rd from 5:00-7:00 PM.

If there are no more workshops available, here are some options in case you still need to get your car cut:
Contact ACE Alamo Hardware in Danville directly at 925-736-6380. Call in the morning to ensure that a resource is available that day. They will only do cuts between 1:00-3:00PM only. Both the parent and Scout need to be there.

Race Highlights
Race Highlights
There will be three divisions which will race in the following order:
1) The Parent Derby
3) The Sibling Derby
4) The Scout Derby (Lion, Tiger, Wolf, Bear, Webelos, AoL Ranks + Overall Speed)
Equal Ground
All entries in the derby will start with the "Official Grand Prix Pinewood Derby Kit" which includes the body, 4 axles, and 4 wheels. All nine pieces MUST be used before the car can race. The kits are sold at the local Scout Shop or online. Cars may not exceed 5 ounces in weight and must conform to certain size restrictions and specifications. Decorating the cars are up to the imagination of the scouts.

Windemere/Gale Ranch 500
In a 5th Annual Cub Scout Pinewood Derby Windemere/Gale Ranch 500. The Pack 997 Overall Scout Derby winner and runner-up in the Speed category will be entered in the Windemere/Gale Ranch 500. This special race will follow our Pinewood Derby and feature the top Speed category cars from Packs 995, 996 and 997.
