STEM NOVA FIELD TRIP: Elements, Minerals & Rocks at the Children’s Natural History Museum

Pack 997 invites Scouts and parents to a hands-on STEM NOVA adventure at the Children’s Natural History Museum in Fremont on Saturday, October 11, 2025, from 10:30 AM to 12:00 PM.
Scouts will explore how elements form minerals, and minerals form rocks, through engaging activities such as:
Reading and exploring the periodic table of elements
Observing real elements and matching them to the table
Identifying minerals using key characteristics
Creating a take-home diagram with rock samples
Touring the museum’s Hall of Minerals and Rocks
Each Scout will receive four rock/mineral samples to keep. After the program ends at noon, families are welcome to explore the rest of the museum on their own.
Please note: This field trip counts as attending a STEM-related event for Wolves, Bears,
Webelos, and Arrow of Light Scouts working toward their STEM Supernova Award.

What to Bring: A water bottle, a small backpack with snacks, and a healthy dose of curiosity! If you’d like to enjoy a packed lunch after the field trip, the museum offers a covered patio where families can relax and eat together after the program concludes.
