Favorite Pack 2 events
Each scouting year is planned with a mix of new ideas and favorite events, such as:
Water Bottle Rocket launch – bring your rocket made from a soda bottle, add some foamboard fins, and get ready to shoot off your bottle rockets!
Space rocket derby – scouts race mini balsa wood gliders propelled by a rubber band and propeller
Raingutter Regatta - build a trimaran sailboat kit, “wind-powered” by blowing on the sail
Themed pack meetings – Citizenship, scouting skills, community service
Local outings – Rock wall climbing, bowling, hikes
Pack Overnight – Battleship Cove nautical nights, EcoTarium Museum, Mystic Aquarium, or Freeze Out cabin camping at Camp Wanocksett
Memorial Day Parade – march in full uniform from Donelan’s to the fire station, with the option to continue on to West Lawn cemetery
Fishing derby – a summer month activity. We have had our best luck at NARA park!
Annual Pack 2 events
Blue & Gold Banquet - Named after the official cub scout colors, Blue & Gold banquets are a February tradition within packs celebrating scouting’s anniversary. In Pack 2, this is also the last official meeting for our AOL scouts as they crossover into Scouts BSA.
Pinewood Derby - With the help of adults, Scouts build their own cars from wood kits the pack provides containing a block of pine wood, plastic wheels, and metal axles. The cars race down a sloped track powered only by gravity! This is typically our March pack meeting.
Webelos Woods - For our older scouts only: an overnight family camping weekend for Webelos, AOLs, and their parents. Webelos earn an Adventure Pin, cook their own supper, setup their tent and camp overnight, while experiencing Camp Wanocksett, the Scouts BSA camp. Webelos Woods is typically offered the last weekend in September.
Crossover celebration & Campout - our end of scout year graduation rank-up ceremony typically takes place in June, followed by an optional family campout on Saint Anne’s field.
