Walleye Tournament Rules for June 1st & 2nd 2024

This event will be held meeting all conditions of Saskatchewan Public Health Orders and Physical Distancing guidelines in place at the time of the event. All entrants and attendees are expected to follow the Provincial physical distancing guidelines and all Public Health recommendations while participating.

1. Eligibility

A) All persons 16 years of age or older are eligible to enter the Regina Beach Walleye Classic tournament. Anglers under 16 must fish with a parent or guardian.

2. Requirements

A)  Each contestant must have in their possession a valid Saskatchewan fishing license.

B)  Promoters and organizations assisting in the tournament operation, their agencies, and agents, are not responsible for death, injury, damage, liability, theft, fire or any loss to any entrants. Each entrant, upon signing an accepted entry form, will in effect be signing a waiver form.

C)  Each entrant will be required to have a US Coast Guard or Canadian approved personal flotation device (PFD).

D)  At least one team member of each team must attend the rules meeting held on Friday evening May 31st.

3. Boats and Equipment

A)  All boats will be required to meet Canadian regulations and must have valid liability insurance in place.

B) 

All boats will be required to carry a provincial or state registration in accordance with the regulations of the home province or state of the contestant owning the boat.

C)  Boats may be equipped with electronic positioning devices and trolling motors.

D)  Electronic and electrical depth finders are allowed.

E)  Communications Devices such as cell phones, pagers, two way radios, marine band radios, etc. are allowed on the boat.

4. SAFETY

A)  All contestants are required to observe Canadian Rules and regulations concerning safe boating. Any team operating a boat in an unsafe fashion will be disqualified at the discretion of the tournament committee. In a second instance of unsafe operation, disqualification will be immediate.

B)  In the event that an unsafe condition arises, i.e. high winds, lightning or an unsafe boat condition the team may go to shore without fear of being disqualified but to avoid disqualification this MUST be reported to tournament officials prior to weighing in your fish.

C)  Each entrant must wear a PFD at all times while on the water or will be disqualified.

5. Fishing

A)  Only Walleye will be included in official totals.

B)  Only those fish caught on hook and line in a legal manner will be accepted.

C)  Each angler is allowed one (1) line in the water at a time. Spare rods and equipment may be carried in the boat.

D)  All lures, bait and artificial bait must conform to current Saskatchewan Fisheries regulations.

E)  Any walleye mangled, mashed or mauled will be weighed and credited at the discretion of the officials.

F)   Anglers will conduct themselves as true sportspersons when fishing near another boat. There is no restricted area around another boat, however no boat may touch another boat. No interference with another angler's line will be allowed.

G) A contestant must NOT leave the boat to land fish, untangle lines or lures.

H) The tournament daily limits will be 5 fish per team per day of which only two may be over 21.5".

l) All contestants are required to keep fish alive by means of an onboard live well system. No more than 5 fish will be permitted in the live well at a time. Once a fish has been weighed and recorded, no substitutions will be allowed, this rule applies to slot size fish and large fish. Any fish deemed non-releasable will be penalized 20% of the weight of that fish.  

J) All weights and markers must be removed from fish and any weights found on/in fish will result in zero (0) weight for the day.

K) Dead or stressed fish will be called at the dock and penalty will be applied at the scale.

L)   Dock Master will provide direction and only one team member will bring fish to the Weigh Master.

M) Anglers can request a re-weigh and the re-weigh will apply regardless if higher or lower.

N)  No fishing in the Fish Release Area.

6. Tournament Boundaries

A) Fishing will be permitted and limited to the southern part of Last Mountain Lake with the North Boundary as indicated on the tournament map and to be discussed prior to the tournament. The northern boundary East and West Coordinates will be provided at the Rules meeting as well as distinctly marked on each shoreline.

7. Weigh In

A) The scale for weigh in will be open throughout the fishing day starting at 09:00 am each day.

B)  Each team will be responsible for their own catch. Under no circumstances may anyone other than the contestants handle or touch a fish until after it has been presented for weigh in.

C)  A team member must accompany the fish to the scales. Each team will receive a copy of their scale ticket each time they weigh in fish. A team member must initial the scale ticket at this time.

D) At the end of the day a staging area will be formed near the scale area where boats will be directed to the weigh in dock and secured. Anglers will identify the live well for Dock Master to inspect. Dock Master will enter the boat and anglers are requested to ensure all rods and equipment are cleared away for access.

8. Fish Measurement

A) All fish will be measured with head to left and belly to belly.

9. Fishing Hours and Starting

A) Start, finish and flight times will be provided at the pretournament meeting. In case of a storm, the tournament may be a one-day event (At the discretion of Tournament Committee).

B)  Contestants who return late will have all the fish in their possessions at the time disqualified. No fishing after checking in for end of day scaling.

C)  Flight start times will be 6:00 AM and 7:00 AM each day with final check in at 2:00 PM and 3:00 PM. The flights will be alternated each day and any changes to this will be provided at the Rules Meeting on Friday.

D) Contestants must be off the water by 2:00 PM Friday before the tournament. Registration and Rules Meeting at 5:15 PM on Friday May 31st.

10. Boat Identification and patrolling.

All contestants' boats will be identified with a numbered decal. A team number will be assigned when notified  of acceptance into the tournament. Decals will be provided at rules meeting. Place decal on port (left) side of boat.

A)                If an emergency occurs, patrol boats will be available for aid. Patrol boat personnel will be clearly marked for easy identification. All contestants' boats are allowed to dock at headquarters only except as allowed under rule 4, SAFETY.

B)                 Boats will be inspected before and during the tournament. Tournament officials will be checking boats at the launch area. Patrol boats will be intensively patrolling the fishing areas. Any cheating of any sort will result in immediate disqualification.

11. Awards & Prizes

A)  Prizes will be based on most weight (pounds) caught during the tournament.

B)  A prize for the largest live Walleye will be announced for each day.

C)  Prizes will be awarded on a team basis.

D)  In the case of a tie the tie break will go to the person with the highest weight on day 1.

E)  Any angler found to be cheating will be disqualified and prosecuted to the extent permitted by law.

F)   All prizes are based on a 100 team field. Tournament Organizers reserve the right to increase entries. Additional monies will go towards the current prize structure. Final prize structure will be announced at the rules meeting.

12. Spirit of the Rule


A) All rules have loopholes. It is the intention of the sponsor to provide an honest sportsman like tournament. In the interest of good sportsmanship, contestants are reminded the spirit of the rule will prevail in all judgments.

13. Protests

A)                Any contestant has the right to make a protest against another contestant. A protest form is available from the tournament chairman and filled out, and presented to the chairman within one hour of close of the fishing day.

B)                 A special protest committee will convene for the purpose of determining action. Both parties and possible witnesses may be called before the committee. The committee will meet within three (3) hours of any protest being formally presented.

C)                 A $150.00 protest fee will be required to accompany any formal protest. The fee is to be returned if the protest is found valid by the Protest committee. If found invalid, the fee will not be refunded. The decision of the protest committee is final in all cases.

14. Miscellaneous

A)                All questions or problems relating to the rules of this tournament are to be referred to the tournament committee. Their decision will be final in all cases. No other person can be considered a spokesman for the rules during the tournament.

B)                 If one of the two-team members drops out before the tournament, they may be replaced by the choice of the remaining team member. The chairman MUST be notified of the change BEFORE the tournament. NO substitutions allowed after the tournament has started.

C)                 If an entire team drops out before the tournament, the place will be filled by the tournament chairman and not the choice of the team that drops out. Entry will be refunded ONLY if notice is given at least 14days prior to the start of the tournament. NO EXCEPTIONS.

15. Amendments

Any amendments, additions or deletions of these rules will be announced at the pre-tournament rules meeting.
