Visualizing Social Network Data

Instructor: Jesse Fagan

In this module we will cover some the concepts, recent advances, and various tools available related to the visualization of social network data. The module will integrate visualization principles (e.g. color, position, contrast), various ways of visualizing network data beyond the common node-link diagram (such as alluvial diagrams, animations, and geographic networks). I will demonstrate the use of the network software Gephi to escape the hairball and create clear visualizations. We will end with a discussion with a survey of the current state of network visualization software.
