Scaling with Network Data

Instructor: Joe Ferrare

In this mini-module we will explore the use of multidimensional scaling and correspondence analysis for analyzing one-mode and two-mode network data. The session will begin with a conceptual introduction to these tools and will include a tutorial in UCINET. In the process, we will discuss how to construct a proximity matrix using measures of similarity (e.g., Jaccard) and dissimilarity (e.g., Euclidean distance) for one-mode and two-mode data sets. The remainder of the time will be spent exploring a variety of practical applications for using these techniques. Data will be provided so participants can practice using these tools in UCINET, and participants are welcome (and encouraged) to bring their own data for this purpose.
