Networks and Leadership

Location: BPC 124

Instructors: Ajay Mehra and Scott Soltis

This is a 1-day Friday workshop on networks and leadership. The session surveys existing research on the topic, and offers some new perspectives, both from a theoretical and applied point of view. This workshop is likely to especially appeal to organizational scholars with an interest in leadership; but this session may also be of interest to business consultants and those engaged in executive development.

Morning Session 8:30-11:30am, Ajay Mehra

In the morning session, an interactive approach will be used to generate critical discussion and debate and highlight some of the many possibilities, both theoretical and methodological, whereby network research could make fruitful contributions to the study of leadership.

Afternoon Session 1-4pm, Scott Soltis

In the afternoon session, the process for how to conduct a network study of leadership will be outlined from gaining access to an organization, to collecting data, to providing feedback. Highlights of this afternoon session include a discussion of alternative approaches to traditional network data collection methods and a hands-on exercise on providing organizational feedback.
