The advanced section is not so much advanced as specialized. We assume that you have used UCINET before, and that you didn't need a general overview of the theory and methods of network research.
Monday - Tips and Tricks
The Monday session is devoted to UCINET "tips and tricks". It covers a number of techniques that are simply too detailed to cover in an introductory workshop. Spme specific items covered:
handling missing data
testing for interaction effects in QAP
tracing only paths among similars (e.g., a path from A to Z where all nodes are women)
constructing the friend of a friend relation
rotating two mds maps to maximally resemble each other
Tuesday - Testing Hypotheses
On Tuesday we cover the use of permutation tests for testing network hypotheses. Some specific topics:
decomposing tie strength into sender, receiver and interaction effects
working with interaction terms in MR-QAP
testing homophily
Wednesday - Network Change
Wednesday is devoted to two topics:
advanced centrality measures
measuring and visualizing network change, both in the sense of change in summary statistics and summarizing dyadic change.
Thursday - Miscellaneous
This is all-request day. Based on requests already submitted, we will be covering KeyPlayer methodology, as well detecting cohesive subgroups (i.e., clustering).
