Summer 2012 Renga
The renga went nicely inside the air conditioned environment of St. Mark's on the Campus.
Four poets showed up. We had hoped for more, but we surmise that between summer school attendance, construction, parking and the heat it was difficult for many to attend. At least there were more chips, dip, and pop for the four who did come! ;-)
We wrote 30 stanzas in about 2 1/2 hours. Some themes and images that popped up were heat, sweat, summer activities, melting chocolate, flowers, genes, memories of summers past, and streams.
The date and venue for the upcoming autumn renga is undecided. It would be nice to have it on campus where there would be many students and faculty, and a Sunday or Wednesday would be possible. Please send any suggestions to Mark Fairchild at pearmoth@gmail.com.
Participants were (in sequence):
Charlene Neeley
Sarah Fairchild
Mark Fairchild
Shiela Tinkham

Date: Sunday, July 15, 2012
Time: 1:30 pm until 4:30 p.m. (you can leave at any time you need to).
Location: the lounge of St. Mark's on the Campus (This is the Episcopal Church and Student Center at 1309 R Street, i.e. the southeast corner of 13th & “R” streets, just north of Nebraska Bookstore).
Do not fear; this is a poetry venue, not a religious one. No proselytizing allowed!
We thank the church for allowing us to use its lounge. This is one place, near campus, where non-UNL people as well as students can easily meet, out of the heat and other elements. If it is an idyllic day we might move across the street to a shaded lawn or something.
All students, faculty and staff are encouraged to participate, if they are interested or just curious. All are welcome to just observe then provisionally participate (or not) if they want to see what it is first.
We will try to bring snacks and soft drinks if we can. Everyone is welcome to do the same, if they can.
Please contact Mark Fairchild for any further details at pearmoth@gmail.com.
