Crime Prevention Tips for Residents
We encourage our residents to review the following tips to help minimize your exposure to crime activity in our neighborhood.
· If you park your vehicle outside, don’t leave any valuables inside (including the glove compartment and trunk), and keep windows closed and doors locked. Burglaries are often a ‘crime of opportunity’ that can be easily avoided. In 2011, Concord Police have seen a drastic increase in the theft of mounted GPS devices from vehicles.
· Garage doors are being left open at night; be sure to check before retiring
· Don’t leave bikes or other valuables unattended in your front yard
· Install a locking gas cap on your car to help prevent siphoning
· Install motion detector lighting around the perimeter of your home
· Always lock your car and take your keys with you if not parked in your garage with the door closed. 80% of all cars stolen are unlocked at the time and half of them had the keys left in the ignition!
· Please be aware that letters you place in your mailbox for the postal carrier with the red flag up is an easy way for someone to steal your outgoing mail.
· If you are going to be away from home for more than a day, please let your Block Captain or a neighbor(s) know for how long and a phone number you can be contacted at in case of emergency.
· Have your mail and newspaper delivery stopped or picked up if you will be out of town. Failure to do may send a message that no one is at home.
· If you see any suspicious cars in the neighborhood, write down the license number and a description of the car and driver. This information may be useful in a police investigation if any crime activity is later reported.
· If you see any suspicious activity in the neighborhood, you can also notify Bay Area Patrol, Inc. at (510)440-9160.
· If you witness a crime in progress, call the Concord Police immediately, and do not attempt to intervene.
