This Schubert song was performed at Trinity Memorial Church, Binghamton, NY, soprano solo with organ accompaniment, as the anthem during the service on September 6, 2015.
It was performed in German, and two members of the congregation provided the translation in the middle column for the benefit of the congregation. The third column includes some additional changes which might be of interest. Both translations are being made available here under a Creative Commons license.
Im Abendrot
-----------------------------------------------------------
O wie schön ist Deine Welt,
Vater, wenn sie golden strahlet!
WennDein Glanz herniederfällt
Und den Staub mit Schimmer malet,
Wenn das Rot, das in der Wolke blinkt,
In mein stilles Fenster sinkt!
-------------------
Könnt ich klagen, könnt ich zagen?
Irre sein an Dir und mir?
Nein, ich will im Busen tragen
Deinen Himmel schon allhier.
Und dies Herz, eh' es zusammenbricht,
Trinkt noch Glut und schlürft noch Licht.

In the Evening's Reddish Glow
-----------------------------------------------------------
Oh, how lovely is Thy world,
Father, when earth beams in rays of gold!
When Thy radiance descendeth,
And the dust, shimmering, sparkles
When the glow in clouds doth gleam,
Streaming through my peaceful** window!
-------------------
How could I complain or fear?
Be in doubt of Thee or me?
No, Thy Heaven will I carry
In my heart… while here on earth.
And my heart, ere it does break,
Drinks still*** the glow, **** savors the light.
