Sustainable Living & Renewable Energy. Comfortably!
An off-the-grid, off-the-furnace, off-the-well
year-round residence in southeastern Minnesota
with a wind generator & photovoltaic cells
with batteries,
passive solar design with radiant heating
and rainwater harvesting.
Thank you for your interest in Project Licht 'n Stein!
Call it a Passive House, call it a Green House - but most of the visitors agree: you have to see it to believe it. This is not your father's off-the-grid "cabin".
Rather, Project Licht 'n Stein is a good-sized house with a modern design and 21st-century amenities like wireless Internet, a whole-house audio system, a dishwasher, washing machine, garage door openers and a (planned) home theater with a 120" projection screen. Yet the house does not need any fossil fuels (like coal, oil, or gas) for its electricity or heating. In fact, as energy prices are increasing at a rate of about 10% per year, this house will save about $300,000 in utility bills over the next 25 years when compared to an average american household.
Whether you've attended or plan to attend an Open House, seen a presentation or just heard about it from a friend or family - I invite you to spend a few minutes to browse around and learn about the various aspects of this project.
If you can't find what you're looking for, send me a note..
If you'd like Christian to help you with your efforts to lower your utility bill, lower your carbon footprint, become greener, live more sustainably all while maintaining (or even increasing) your current level of comfort, find out more about Licht 'n Stein Consulting.
