This is the original hand rail. It was done in by a not-quite-dead halibut that was still in the water and tied over the rail down to the aft cleat. Seas were sloppy and the fish kicked up out of the water then fell back in just as the seas kicked the boat up in the air. Good-bye railing. I kept the halibut.
Here are the new railings. They are made from a sheet of 10-gauge 316L stainless steel. (I may have gone a bit overboard.) They are indeed sturdy.
