Can we create more than a dozen?
Yes. If your muse needs you to make more, you are welcome to listen. Sometimes the muse won't allow an artist to leave 11 items for the split after the prizes. We'll make it work. If you get really close to that dozen and run out of time, bring what you have. I'll figure out the math.
Do we have to create a whole dozen?
No. You may create a half dozen, 6 items.
Do we have to create a dozen?
No. This year we have added the option to create a half dozen or 6 items. This will let folks who are overwhelmed at the thought of a full dozen or wish to take on a smaller challenge to participate as well. Please note that the info below may not reflect the half dozen option but just think 6 when you see the number 12.
Do we have to make everything?
No. You can contribute supplies, kits, and other items that you would love to find in a largess basket. Some exchanges have received kits that allow the recipients to make things and learn new skills or create a useful project. Be sure to include instructions and to safely package and label your items. If you are purchasing items for the derby please look for items that will help maintain a medieval feel. Many Crowns work hard to maintain the feel of the middle ages and having appropriate largess helps them.
Making 12 of the same item is boring. Can we mix it up?
Yes! Set your theme around variety. Here are some ideas for you:
- 12 things your persona would have carried or used
- 12 things common in your time or place
- 12 UFO's that are finally finished and must leave the house
- 12 things made at Fighter Practice or A&S Night
- 12 things found on Pinterest
- 6 of one thing and 6 of another (in any variety but total to 12)
All of these ideas can be created by ones or twos or threes or any number your artistic muse enjoys. The key is to total them up to 12. Each can be entirely unique or you can repeat any item as you are inspired.
Can we share pictures of our items before the derby?
Yes! Share your projects. You just might inspire someone else!
Can our shire or household participate?
Yes! Generosity and largess are boundless. Your items will be most gratefully received by the Kings and Queens attending Battlemoor.
When do we need to deliver?
The items need to be at Battlemoor on Saturday afternoon. We schedule for either 1 or 2 hours. Be sure your item arrives before the middle of the scheduled time frame. Late arrivals will be accepted but we've got to divide into bags for all the Crown and be ready for evening court on Saturday evening so do your best to be on time. If you can’t attend but would like to participate, please make arrangements to have your items transported by someone who will be attending. Your representative will need to pick your prize out for you and get it back to you.
What should I include on a label?
Your name and group. The item name, type, or description. Materials, especially anything that might be an allergen. Common allergens include wool, cats, dogs, strong scents, peanuts, eggs, etc. If you create in an environment where these things (any anything else you think could be an issue) will come into contact with your item, be kind and list that on the label. Any additional information that would help the recipient use or understand your item such as where or when it may have been used in period or how to use it. Labels should be secured to each item so that it will remain with the item during transit. Remember, it must first survive both Battlemoor breezes and transport to the home kingdom before being placed in a basket that is handled by exhausted retinue and going through a bit of jostling before it reaches its recipient. Consider how it might survive in your own baskets and boxes on the way home from a long weekend when labeling. Battlemoor is also extremely dusty so if it started out a color that isn't dust, you may wish to wrap it to ensure it remains the original color.
I can’t participate this time. Will there be another chance?
Yes. Plans are underway for future 4D locations. If you need more time to create, you can definitely participate in a future derby. There are largess derbies all around the known world. Look for one near you or even start one of your own!
What items are specifically prohibited if the Crowns will be flying with the largess?
We don't anticipate any Crowns flying internationally at this time but some may fly domestic. These links will help you plan if you're uncertain:
