*PLEASE go to your AnimoSpace accounts. This class will be conducted asynchronously. I will still be available in AnimoSpace chat during class hours.

You are not required to buy any book.

The topics that we will cover in class will depend on your choice of readings that are in the reference list.

Scrapbooks  can be in PPT form or use CANVA or any online scrapbook tool, just don't forget to send the link

Rule #1: BE CREATIVE!

>The rubric for grading the scrapbooks is found in the syllabus on the files area.

>In depth details and other requirements regarding the scrapbooks will be discussed in class. 

>There will be allocated class meetings for your projects. Please do most of your work in the classroom.

Scrapbook 1 (The Growth of a Country)

-each group has to choose a particular country to focus on (start from contemporary history--after World War 2; and tell the country's story showing both good times and bad)

Requirements:

>Minimum 10 pages (5 sheets of paper/paperboard, back to back) The more filled pages with great content, the better.

>Maximum size (length and width) = approximately the size of a short bond paper, anything smaller is ok

>Include a reference list for your sources

>Individual reflection paper regarding the topic (minimum 1 page; separate bond paper from the scrapbook; spacing, margins, font = it is all up to you.)

>NO GLITTERS

Scrapbook 2 (Philippines: Problems and Solutions)

-each group has to choose a particular problem to focus on (education, health, environment, population, urbanization, urban job market, farmers, fishermen, corruption, etc.) and show the solutions of the government and the group's own suggestions

Requirements:

>Minimum 10 pages (5 sheets of paper/paperboard back to back) The more filled pages with great content, the better.

>Maximum size (length and width) = approximately the size of a short bond paper, anything smaller is ok

>Include a reference list for your sources

>Individual reflection paper regarding the topic (minimum 1 page; separate bond paper from the scrapbook; spacing, margins, font = it is all up to you.)

Rubric for Grading (DISCUSSION FORUM POSTS):

Frequency 40%

90-100 Student is very participative in every discussion thread.

80-89 Student is participative in most discussion threads.

60-79 Student lacks participation in most discussion threads.

0-59 Student does not participate in the discussion threads.

Design 60%

90-100 Comments are relevant and contribute to the discussion; points are well-stated/argued and open up possible branches in the conversation.

80-89 Comments are relevant but somewhat off-topic; points are made but lack clarity and are based on general arguments.

60-79 Comments are redundant or lack coherence; contribute little to furthering the discussion.

0-59 Comments are generic and lack substance.

Reading Material Written Report Content 

I. Summary

A summary tells all of the main ideas but doesn't include the background details or evidence. Write out the thesis statement of the article. I will have writing tips to help you. Please read that discussion on AnimoSpace. (Try to keep it within 3 to 5 sentences)

II. Analysis

Just choose one of the following:

1. Provide the necessary historical, legal, geographical, and cultural context necessary in understanding the issue; or

2. Provide additional/recent quantitative data (i.e., table or graph) to support or negate main arguments; or

3. Provide the theory/model/framework on which the analyses was based; or

4. Identify and discuss the “winners” and “losers” or implications or alternatives to the proposed solution, whichever is applicable; or

5. Compare and contrast 2 or more countries on their approach to the issue

*Remember to put proper APA citations.
