1. Visionary Leadership

Educational Administrators inspire and lead development and implementation of a shared vision for comprehensive integration of technology to promote excellence and support transformation throughout the organization.

a) To what extent do you Inspire and facilitate among all stakeholders a shared vision of purposeful change that maximizes use of digital-age resources to meet and exceed learning goals, support effective instructional practice, and maximize performance of district and school leaders

comments:

I have worked hard to inspire and communicate the vision to all stakeholders. I feel there could still be more outreach to the community and more training for teachers and parents to truly maximize the perforamance of my school leaders.

b) To what extent do you engage in an ongoing process to develop, implement, and communicate technology-infused strategic plans aligned with a shared vision?

comments:

We are constantly looking at ways to improve our technology use at school. That being said, I think there could be much more structured staff development to develop teacher skills.

c) To what extent do you advocate on local, state and national levels for policies, programs, and funding to support implementation of a technology-infused vision and strategic plan?

comments:

I have been actively involved in local, state, and national conferences/discussions/trainings to promote and develop the use of technology in education.

2. Digital Age Learning Culture

a) To what extent do you ensure instructional innovation focused on continuous improvement of digital-age learning?

comments:

As mentioned, we are always looking at how to innovate with technology. I am not yet at a 5 on this scale as the measurement of continuous improvement is not in place yet.

b) To what extent do you model and promote the frequent and effective use of technology for learning?

c) To what extent do you provide learner-centered environments equipped with technology and learning resources to meet the individual, diverse needs of all learners?

comments:

This is taking place in most of our classrooms at this time. We are working to develop our teachers newer to technology to get this into all classes.

d) To what extent do you ensure effective practice in the study of technology and its infusion across the curriculum?

comments:

See above.

e) To what extent do you promote and participate in local, national, and global learning communities that stimulate innovation, creativity, and digital age collaboration?

comments:

I am participating in many different communitites at many different levels. My staff is just beginning to join in on these communities. We still have some work to do here.

3. Excellence in Professional Practice

a) To what extent do you allocate time, resources, and access to ensure ongoing professional growth in technology fluency and integration?

comments:

I need to work to find more structured trainings to help my teachers both develop their skills and open them to new communities who are using technology.

b)To what extent do you facilitate and participate in learning communities that stimulate, nurture and support administrators, faculty, and staff in the study and use of technology?

comments:

I am participating in these communities, but many on my staff are still new to them. I am very supportive of my staff participating in theses communities.

c)To what extent do you promote and model effective communication and collaboration among stakeholders using digital age tools?

comments:

While my students and staff are using technology in a myriad of ways, I find I am relying on older methods (email, texting, twitter, linked websites) to communicate with my staff. I will be implementing more of the techniques and resources I have learned in this academy to communicate and train my teachers.

d)To what extent do you stay abreast of educational research and emerging trends regarding effective use of technology and encourage evaluation of new technologies for their potential to improve student learning?

comments:

Though at times it's like taking a drink of water out of a firehose...

4. Systemic Improvement

a)To what extent do you lead purposeful change to maximize the achievement of learning goals through the appropriate use of technology and media-rich resources?

comments:

We are at the end of our first year of 1:1 so we will have our first year of data at the end of this year. This baseline data (for future 1:1 years) and will be compared to last years data. (no 1:1)

b) To what extent do you collaborate to establish metrics, collect and analyze data, interpret results, and share findings to improve staff performance and student learning?

comments:

See above comments. We will be meeting at the end of this year to discuss the metrics we will want to use from here on out.

c)To what extent do you recruit and retain highly competent personnel who use technology creatively and proficiently to advance academic and operational goals?

comments:

This question is not always in my control- I inhereted much of my staff. I have had the opportunity to hire some tremendously effective teachers. I have found it easy to inspire my "inhereted" teachers to adopt technology wholeheartedly!

d) To what extent do you establish and leverage strategic partnerships to support systemic improvement?

comments:

I have been tremendously fortunate to connect with partnerships that have boosted the cause of technology in my school and district. Our school runs a Youth Institute patterned after the YMCA of the greater Long Beach area. Their partnership have brought amazing opportunities to our students and school.

e)To what extent do you establish and maintain a robust infrastructure for technology including integrated, interoperable technology systems to support management, operations, teaching, and learning?

comments:

I feel like I am doing this well. It is a lot of work in a small school- I often act as tech support on a daily basis.

5. Digital Citizenship

Educational Administrators model and facilitate understanding of social, ethical and legal issues and responsibilities related to an evolving digital culture.

a) To what extent do you ensure equitable access to appropriate digital tools and resources to meet the needs of all learners?

comments:

Our 1:1 program has really leveled the playing field at our school.

b)To what extent do you promote, model and establish policies for safe, legal, and ethical use of digital information and technology?

comments:

We are addressing our CIPA needs, but there is such a great need for students to truly understand digital citizenship. Next year, teachers will be incorporating this discussion into more and more lessons to ensure students internalize the safety measures they should be taking everytime they log on.

c)To what extent do you promote and model responsible social interactions related to the use of technology and information?

comments:

See above

d)To what extent do you model and facilitate the development of a shared cultural understanding and involvement in global issues through the use of contemporary communication and collaboration tools?

comments:

We have teachers who do this very well. I have been very focused on our site, but feel that we will be ready next year to begin looking far outside our school to engage our students in a larger global culture.
