Individuals are greatly affected by the small and large communities that they live in. As a new student at HIS, you will definitely be affected by the culture of our community. Your teacher will help you better understand what we mean by the term “culture”.
__________
Task A> HIS Culture
Open a your “HIS Culture” Mindmeister mind map with “HIS Culture” in the center.
Open a new Google Doc to start writing a survey where you develop questions to ask HIS community members questions to define the HIS culture. Name the document “7hums-survey-your name” and share it with your teacher.
Use your survey to meet with at least 8 students, teachers and parents to answer your questions. You will need to take good notes save into your Google Doc. Review all of the notes to look for patterns of similar information that can be put into categories. Then go to your mind map to create nodes for each of the categories. Use the Note tool to add notes from your Google Doc to each of your nodes.
Remember that note taking is a two part process: Part 1) Take the notes in your own words. 2) Analyze the notes looking at all the parts. Then find patterns of information that can by synthesized into categories. This process helps you build real understanding. Note that all these bold words are concepts and skills that you learned in this Expedition!
__________
Task B> HIS & My Values Before we can set personal goals, our first step is to better understand what we believe in. In other words, what are my values? We also need to know the values of our community. To be healthy, our values should be supported by those of our community. You did the research to learn the values of the HIS community. You will now do the “research” to learn yours!
*Your teacher will share a lesson on discovering your values to then set your goals.
Start a new node in your HIS Culture mind map and name it “My Values”. You are to then brainstorm your personal values (what you believe in as in honesty, hard work, being a caring person, etc.).
Use your “My Values” mind map to develop your goals for the remainder of the school year and possibly beyond. Use the skills you learned in the Organizing Time section of this WebQuest to set dates for you to reach your goals. Write a blog post where you list your goals and the dates you set to reach them.
