Portfolios provide the structure to share your learning with an audience. When you display them on the Web, they are called eFolios or electronic portfolios or digital portfolios. You will create one using good design skills that will document your learning at HIS over the next six years. The pages will be: Humanities, Math, Science, Language Arts, Wellness, Arts, Community & Learning. The content you add to each page will connect to the student learning outcomes.
______________
Task:
Step 1> Use iWeb to create your eFolio with the pages listed above. Create a Google Document and name it “7hums-portfolio-yourname”. Share it with your teacher. You will now work on creating content for the “Learning” page of your eFolio. Add the following sections/headings to your Google Document and to the “Learning” page of your eFolko:
•My Thinking, Organizational & Learning Skills
•HIS Culture including the Learning Outcomes (with full details)
•My Mission Statement with Habits (school, home, community)
Step 2> You will review all of your work (i.e., your blog posts, mind maps and Google Docs) to reflect upon what you learned in this expedition. You are to create the following three projects.
•Essay 1- My Thinking, Organizational & Learning Skills: Start with what you learned about thinking, organizing and learning skills. Go to those sections of the WebQuest and review the tasks and what the work you completed. Write a short essay of at least 3 paragraphs describing your learning from those tasks.
•Essay 2- HIS Culture: Write a short essay of at least 3 paragraphs about what you learned about the culture of the school.
•Mission Statement: Review your mission statement to rewrite it with very clear and well-written sentences. You are to have at least 5 goals/habits especially focusing on how you plan to be efficient and productive when using various technologies.
View the 6 Traits writing rubric to guide you as you write these three projects.
Use the following questions (that you answered in this WebQuest) to help you write your essays.
•What skills can help me become a better learner?
•How do we learn?
•How do we organize our learning?
•How do we organize our learning especially in Social Studies?
•What is culture?
•What is the culture of HIS?
•What are values?
•Why set goals?
•How to share one’s learning?
•How have you used the 5 Student Learning Outcomes (Critical Thinker & Problem Solver, Effective Communicator, Active Learner, Community Contributor, Person of High Character) in this Expedition?
Step 3> You are to share your Google Doc with a partner to peer edit each other’s work. Your task is to write the content that will go into your “Learning” page. Your teacher will also work with you through this process.
Step 4> Add the two essays and Mission Statement to your Learning page. You are doing a lot of reflection which is a big part of preparing information for your portfolio.
________________________________________________________________
Wow, you are learning a great deal about yourself, our school and lots of tools. It can feel overwhelming as you orient yourself to life at HIS. Take some time to celebrate your hard work! One of the goals of this unit is to help you feel more empowered in your ability to learn and to know how to use various tools (including your brain) to be a learner. You are developing what we call a personal learning system that is sort of a toolkit for learning. Between Google apps, Mindmeister, iWork, helpful Web sites, widgets on your Macbooks, and other tools, you are using your technology literacy to choose the best tool for the task at hand. You are learning where to go to get information, how to capture and store it while using your analysis and synthesis skills to be creative in communicating your ideas.
You will use your personal learning system to add work samples to your eFolio throughout the year. You will be respond to set questions with each addition to your eFolio. This process helps you reflect about your learning in the subject area and towards reaching the HIS Learning Outcomes. The eFolio is a wonderful tool to help you think and reflect about your learning at HIS.
