Germs

|Chapter 1: What are germs and how can they affect you?|

There are four types of germs. They are viruses, bacteria, fungi and protozoa. You often cannot see them but they can find their way into your body to make you sick. While we use the term “germs” especially when talking about not wanting to get sick, scientists are very specific to use the proper name for each of these “structures of nature”. We cannot call them all “organisms” because organisms are alive.

Viruses are not alive while bacteria, fungi and protozoa are. Thus, if we are talking about all of them together, we need to call them structures of nature and not organisms.

How can germs affect us and how can we defend ourselves against them? Think “PDI” which means Protect Don’t Infect. Take a look at the video below and take a notes on how the people in the video protect themselves and others from germs.
