Below are the spelling words we will be doing each week (1st column). There are 10 spelling words with two mystery spellings using the spelling pattern (2nd column) for that week. 5B will do their spellings on Wednesday and 5A and 5C will do it on Thursday. There is a worksheet to support the learning. Please complete the spelling sheet before the spelling test. It will be checked on the same day we have the spelling test. If you lose your spelling sheet you can print it by opening the document on the right (3rd column).

Adding -ing spelling words
After a long vowel sound,
use one consonant + -le.
table
After a short vowel sound,
use two consonants + -le.

Adding -ing spelling words
For most words just add -ing.
eat → eating
For words with a short vowel sound before the last letter, double the last letter and add -ing.
hop → hopping
For words that end in -e, drop the last e and add -ing,
