On most Sundays we offer two worship services, one at 8:30 a.m. and one at 11:00 a.m, Each varies somewhat in style. While some faith communities have highly distinctive liturgical and contemporary services, at LCOS, many members and visitors simply choose a service based on the most convenient time to attend and there is a blend of interests. Each service offers grace, friendliness, excellent preaching, and quality music consistent with a great ELCA Lutheran worship experience.
8:30 a.m. Traditional Service
A favorite of early risers, this is a liturgical worship service, featuring hymns and liturgy from the Evangelical Lutheran Worship hymnal, with most hymns accompanied by our organist David Lines on our unique Visser-Rowland pipe organ. Worship leaders typically wear robes, sometimes will act as cantors, and lead the congregation in more traditional creeds. Traditional refers to the liturgical style, although the specific setting of worship is changed periodically to keep things fresh. You will find a warm welcome, some casual dress and some traditional Sunday dress, which is entirely up to the worshiper.
11:00 a.m. Prayer & Praise Service
Some would call it the Contemporary Service. This service combines the joy and inspiration of praise songs and familiar gospel tunes accompanied by piano, guitar, keyboard, scripture readings, and modern language versions of confessions of faith. The music for the 11:00 a.m. service is led by the Prayer & Praise Band, our team of vocalists, guitarists, a keyboardist, and any other talent that comes forward from the congregation and willing to practice. This group continues to explore worship styles consistent with our faith to meet the needs of a diverse group of members, visitors and youth. Prayer and Praise refers to our use of more praise songs, gospel songs, different instruments, modern language affirmations of faith, and the worship leaders are in street clothes.
Special Services
These services occur periodically throughout the year where there can be a mix of guest speakers; member-inspired messages, music, youth participation, and other creative forms of expression to bring God’s love to life for you. Holiday events occur throughout the year as well and we encourage everyone who wants to deepen their faith to attend any of the dynamic services. For more information about our worship, please contact the worship committee chairperson at worship@LCOSavior.org.One of the goals of our worship leaders for regular and special services is to remain perpetually open to new people and new ideas for making those connections. Greeters, readers, instrumentalists, vocalists, powerpoint preparers, ushers, audiovisual operators, and others are all part of Sunday morning worship and special services. If you want to take a more active role in worship, you can always contact our worship chair at worship@LCOSavior.org, or contact Pastor Rich at Pastor@LCOSavior.org.
We look forward to seeing you in worship and adoring the Triune God who creates, redeems, and sustains us, and who has provided in Christ our bridge to God and has also given us a rich historical tradition and new means to experience connections to God through the Christian Church and to all of God's other children, our brothers and sisters.
