GENERAL
This work package contains instructions for safe operation of the 7 1/2 Ton Crane under normal conditions.
Prior to operation, read the Warning Summary located at the front of this technical manual. At all times, remain aware of safety hazards related to the operation of the crane.
Refer to the following Work Packages (WP), as needed, to assist in the location of components, controls, and indicators related to operation:

STARTING ENGINE
CAUTION
DO NOT engage starter motor for more than 30 seconds at a time. Should engine fail to start within
30 seconds, allow starter motor to cool for two minutes before attempting to start engine again.
Failure to comply may cause damage to starter.
NOTE
Maintaining battery in fully charged state is important for starting engine.
When engine reaches operating temperature of 140°F (60°C), operations may begin.
While engine is running, be alert for any abnormal engine sounds or malfunctions.
Complete items listed in Operator/Crew Preventive Maintenance Checks and Services (PMCS).
Apply parking brake.
Place transmission shift lever in NEUTRAL position.
Set throttle to half-speed.
Place ignition switch in ON position.
Push starter button to start engine. Release starter button as soon as engine starts.
a. If engine stalls during startup procedure, allow engine to stop turning before re-engaging starter.
b. If engine will not start, refer to Engine Will Not Start, WP (1000).
6. If engine starts proceed to step 9.

BEFORE MOVING
CAUTION
Prior to traveling more than five miles on improved roads or two miles on rough terrain or unimproved
roads, remove chain from switch and secure to anchor point on panel box located on boom head
or block, whichever is accessible. Failure to comply may cause damage to hook block switch.
